Stories of Hope: Lisa

Lisa* became a client of Hope Cottage at the beginning of 2022 when she was pregnant with her second child. At the time, she struggled financially because she lost her job during the pandemic and was not receiving any support from the children’s father. Her lack of resources was putting her family at risk. She lived in a one-bedroom apartment with her two children and was studying early childhood education. She needed emotional support. Her case manager connected her to support, and Lisa became an incredibly consistent client. She was always willing to learn, ask questions, and become a better mother. No matter the circumstance, Lisa always put her children first. During case-management sessions, she worked through the importance of co-parenting, which pushed her to re-establish communication with her children’s father. Her success at involving him led him to start supporting his children and improving his relationship with them. The family was beginning to thrive.

After seeing her hard work, our case manager suggested a scholarship application to help cover the cost of school. Lisa worked tirelessly, spending many hours collecting paperwork and filling out all of the needed information. Her efforts were a success, and she was awarded the scholarship. The additional money let Lisa move to a larger apartment with a separate room for her children. She has stayed consistent with her sessions and continues to work hard in school and excel.
