Be a lifesaver this North Texas Giving Day
At Hope Cottage, we believe that every family deserves the chance to thrive, and sometimes, that starts with simply surviving. Our programs are often the lifeline for families in crisis across North Texas. Whether it’s a mother finally accessing prenatal care, a foster child finding stability, or a parent learning how to keep their baby safe, we walk with families through their most vulnerable moments.
This North Texas Giving Day, you can be a lifesaver by supporting our work.
Parenting Support: Confidence That Saves Lives
Each week, our parenting classes equip families with life-saving information, including CPR, child development, postpartum mental health, safe sleep practices, and other essential topics. Combined with diapers, meal kits, and community, parenting support provides stability that extends far beyond the classroom.
Keisha’s Story
While leading a class at a Dallas Housing Authority site, one of our facilitators noticed that Keisha’s infant was breathing rapidly, too rapidly. When asked, Keisha said it was just a cold, and she had been giving over-the-counter medicine.
We praised her attentiveness but gently encouraged her to have the baby seen by a doctor. Days later, Keisha returned with tears in her eyes. It was pneumonia. Her baby received treatment just in time.
Keisha, a single mom of three, has now attended classes for five months. She brings her older children, connects with other moms, and has become a leader in the group, asking questions, sharing advice, and helping other parents advocate for their families.
“They told me it was pneumonia. I don’t even want to think about what could’ve happened if I hadn’t gone.”
Pregnancy Services & Infant Adoption: Empowered Choices
Our experienced staff provides options counseling, prenatal support, and advocacy for all expectant parents, whether they choose to parent, pursue kinship care, or make an adoption plan. For those who choose adoption, we ensure it’s ethical, compassionate, and centered on their voice.
Tasha’s Story
Tasha, a hardworking mom of four, arrived at the hospital in labor without an adoption plan in place. She had considered adoption during her pregnancy, but after a painful experience with another agency years ago, she didn’t trust the process. Her first adoption had promised openness but delivered silence. Our team was called in that same day. We listened. We explained that birth parents at Hope Cottage lead their adoption plan and determine the level of openness. Tasha was hesitant, but hopeful.
With our support, she selected a family that shared her values and was committed to ongoing contact. They met in the hospital. They cried together. They promised to honor each other and the love behind this choice.
Today, Tasha receives regular photos, texts, and even video calls. Her child is thriving, and so is she, working toward her GED and finding peace in knowing her baby is loved, safe, and still part of her life.
“They listened to what I wanted. This time, it was my choice.”
CeCe’s Place: Maternal Health That Saves Lives
Texas has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the U.S., especially for Black and Latina mothers. CeCe’s Place is a maternal medical clinic providing bilingual prenatal care, counseling, baby supplies, and wraparound services, all in one trusted location.
Elena’s Story
At 14 weeks pregnant, Elena’s partner beat her for the first time. She fled immediately with her one-year-old daughter to a transitional shelter for victims of domestic violence. After a few weeks, she was told she had just two days to leave to make room for new arrivals. That same week, Elena had her first prenatal appointment at CeCe’s Place. She spent the morning searching for housing, then arrived for her appointment with her daughter and all her possessions in the car, having nowhere to live.
Jackie, our bilingual pregnancy care coordinator, found Elena a couple of nights in a hotel and began calling our network. When no shelters had space, a community partner connected us to a real estate developer who reserves apartments for families in crisis. Within 24 hours, Elena and her daughter moved into their own two-bedroom apartment, furnished by Hope Cottage families, donors, and staff, her daughter’s first bedroom since they fled abuse.
Now, Elena is keeping every prenatal appointment and working toward a safe, stable future for both of her children.
“On our first night in our new place, my daughter and I slept well. For the first time in months, I felt safe.”
Foster Care: Support That Builds Bridges
For children removed from unsafe environments, Hope Cottage’s foster care team provides the stability and support they need to heal. We work with both foster and biological families, building bridges through therapy, co-parenting, and consistent care.
Max & Cara’s Story
When 4-year-old Max entered foster care as an emergency placement, he was heartbroken. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t live with his mom, Cara. At first, their visits were supervised. Then came video chats. Eventually, Cara earned unsupervised time. With each step, she showed up, patient, consistent, and committed to bringing Max home.
Meanwhile, Max’s foster mom offered more than a safe home. She partnered with Cara through joint medical appointments, shared updates, and gentle co-parenting support. On a trip to visit her parents, Max bonded immediately and still video chats with his “Austin grandparents” to show them drawings or tell them when he loses a tooth. Cara has completed every CPS requirement and is now searching for a stable new home for both of them. But with a medical procedure ahead, she asked that Max remain in care a little longer to recover in a calm, supported space.
Because of Hope Cottage, Max sees two moms working together and is growing up surrounded by trust and love. And thanks to your support, Cara is getting the help she needs to secure a safe, permanent home where Max can thrive.
“He knows we both love him. And that changes everything.
Be a lifesaver for Keisha, Tasha, Elena, and Max. When moms like Keisha, Tasha, Elena, and Cara — or children like Max — are underwater, your gift is lifesaving.
